PASSPORT

1. General Information

Indonesian passport (Passport) is the property of the Indonesian State and issued by  the Government of the Republic of Indonesia  for Indonesian citizens traveling and/or living temporarily or permanently overseas.

There are 2 types of Indonesian passport: individual passport and family passport.

Passport is valid entirely for 5 (five) years, then a renewal should be requested. Extension of validity only will be provided for the passport that is valid only for two or three years.

The issuance of passport with validity for 3 years and then 2 more years extension was decided in view of  the Article 17k of the Indonesian Citizenship Acts no. 62/ 1958 (vide the Lost of Nationality   and page 48 of the passport).

To accommodate the request of Indonesian citizens within Midwest area who are unable to come to the Consulate for  passport renewals, registering the presence in advance to the Consulate is advised. (vide : Registration  of Presence).

An application will be processed by the Consulate  if requirements  thereof and interview ( if required)  have been met.

The applicant is required to come to the Consulate for a passport renewal  if the passport loses or  passport is  1 year-overdue, having no clear identity as Indonesian citizen and unregistered in the Consulate. The application will not be processed if the applicant has no proofs to be submitted to the Consulate about his/her identity as Indonesian citizen.

2. Renewal/Replacement or Extension of  Passport

1. Ordinary Passport

1. Renewal  of Passport

• resident in Midwest area

• current passport

• 6 pieces photographs with red background size 2x2 inches

• original or certified copy of ID Card (Green Card) or copy of H1B, I-20; Those who have no identity proof in the US must show the entry visa to the US attached in the applicant passport

• completed passport application and registration of presence forms (vide Formulir Penggantian Paspor: Perdim 14, MPP and Formulir Pendaftaran Diri form A or B for student)

• passpor fee Money Order $ 22.00 to The Indonesian Consulate  ( no cash or personal check )(vide Biaya Paspor)

For the applicant to apply for a passport renewal by mail, a return envelope must be included two times: first at the time of sending the completed  applications and the second at the time the applicant sends the signed passport back to the Consulate.

Other requirements should be included in the above application:

• for the lost of passport, except the original passport, include also the police report, original or certified birth certificate or marriage certificate or family book and a copy of  the lost passport (if any)

• for inserting a child onto one of parents passports, include also 4 pieces of child photographs and his/her original or certified birth certificate and child insertion fee (vide Biaya Pemasukan Anak)

• for change of name, include also the original or certified Court Decision regarding the change of name

• for addition of  family’s or father’s name, include also the original or certified birth certificate

• for addition of spouse’s name, include also the original or certified copy of  marriage certificate

•  for those unable to come to the Consulate, include also the letter to the Consulate.

2. Extension of the Passport Validity

Upon request, the following requirements of passport extension may be sent by mail to the Consulate:

• current passport

• completed passport  application extension forms (vide Form : MPP and Formulir Pendaftaran Diri form A or B for student)

• 2 pieces pictures size 2x2 inches

• original or certified copy of Green Card

• copy of H1B and I-20 or those who have no identity proof in the US must show the entry visa to the US attached in the applicant passport  

• no passport extension fee

Other requirements should be included in the above application:

The normal processing time to issue a new passport takes about 1-2 weeks after the completed applications received. Processing time may also take about 3 or 4 weeks if a lot number of  passport applications received within that period.

The normal processing time for extension of passport validity takes one working day if the applicant comes over  to the Consulate earlier within working hours but not longer than 2 or 3 working days after the application received.

To help processing a new passport in a short time, the applicant is requested to meet all above requirements and to fill out the forms completely.

2. Diplomatic and Service Passport

Diplomatic or Service passport is only  issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Consulate  can assist  to give an extension of passport validity after completing the following requirements:

• letter from  applicant’s employer institution in Indonesia

• letter from the university or institution funding  the applicant to be enrolled as a student there

• completed passport application forms (vide Formulir Penggantian Paspor: Perdim 14, MPP and Formulir Pendaftaran Diri form A or B for student)

• current passport

• 4 pieces pictures passport size (for a replacement with red background)

The Consulate will accept the application to obtain a replacement of the lost passport  addressed to the Department of Foreign Affairs. The above requirements and the police report must be sent to the Consulate. The Consulate will also accomodates the request of a replacement of the lost passport by issueing a new ordinary passport provided the requirements stated in 1a have been met.

 Processing time   for extension    : 1 to 3 days; for renewal/replacement : up to 3 months

 3.  Travel Document in lieu of Passport (SPLP) 

Mostly this type of passport  is issued to  Indonesian citizen whose passport  lost during his/her trips overseas.
