STATUS OF INDONESIAN CITIZENSHIP FOR INDONESIAN HAVING RESIDENCE OVERSEAS 

Article 17k of the Indonesian Act on Citizenship  no. 62/1958 in regard to the  lost  of Indonesian Citizenship stating that instead of the state duties abroad, Indonesian citizens age 18 years or above or the underaged married, is required to verify their Indonesian citizenships once in 5 years consecutively  and then every 2 years to the nearby Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General (called as Mission) in order to persevere  their  nationalities from revocation.

Indonesian citizens living abroad are advised to read this regulation written on the reverse side of the passport book (page 48).

The following steps may prevent from losing  Indonesian citizenship while living abroad :

  1. Verify your nationality in written to the Mission close to your residence abroad. For Indonesian citizens living in Midwest area, verification and completed identity as stated in page 1 and 2 of the passport should be sent  to the Indonesian Consulate General, Address: 211 West Wacker 8 Floors, Chicago, IL 60606 or send email to : consular@indonesiachicago.org

  2. Renew passport validity  on a timely manner. The Indonesian Consulate General in Chicago will accept the application for passport renewal from those whose passports have 6-month-validity before its expiration.

  3. Indonesian citizenship  Acts no. 62/1958  only  recoqnizes one single citizenship not double citizenships;

  4. For those who stay abroad more than 3 months, are recommended to register their presences to the nearby  Mission (vide Registration of Presence).
