 VISA WAIVER FOR SHORT  VISIT OR KNOWN AS FREE VISA FOR SHORT  VISIT

Regulations on Free Visa for Short Visit or Visa Waiver for Short Visit that facilitated nationals of 48 countries to visit Indonesia without requiring an entry visa had changed under a Presidential Decree no. 18/2003 dated 31 March 2003. The Decree stated that visa waiver for short visit will be provided based on reciprocal basis.

As a result, nationals of Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil,  Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary,  Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Maldives, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand,  Norway,  Saudi Arabia,  Slovak, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Swiss, Taiwan Passport holders, code MFA/M, Thailand, The Netherlands, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Venezuela, Yugoslavia (SFRY) require a visa to enter Indonesia.

Otherwise, nationals of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, The Philippines, Hongkong SAR, Macao SAR, Chili, Marocco, Peru and Vietnam still enjoy visa waiver for short visit for the purposes of pleasures (tourism), social and cultural visit, business visit and government business trip.

A visa waiver is good to stay in Indonesia  for  30 days from the date of entry and length of stay is non-extendible.  They  must  leave Indonesia.

Nationals enjoying visa waiver shall present to  the Immigration Check Point authorities the following documents:

  1. national passport  valid at least 6 (six) months from the date of entry into Indonesia. (holder of travel document is unacceptable).

  2. return or round trips ticket

Fail to meet these requirements  brings about the denial  to enter Indonesia. A visa waiver may be enjoyed if entry or exit to be made through   the following designated ports or borders:

A visa is required if  the entry  or exit made  instead of ports or borders as stated above or  taking on cruise or private plane to enter  or exit Indonesia.

Engaged in any employment paid or unpaid during stay in Indonesia is not permitted.

Violations of Immigration laws and regulations are subject to  penalties, requiring them to pay penalties and to be removed from Indonesia and will not be  allowed to enter Indonesia for certain years.

Other certain aliens  require no visa to enter Indonesia

  1. aliens holding valid Indonesian temporary/permanent stay permits card as long as they have valid re-entry permit attached on their passport to enter Indonesia;

  2. crews of  airlines or ships, under the bilateral agreement,  working for the international regular/scheduled flight/ship as long as they have  valid passport of 6 months from the date of entry.

  3. aliens who will make a stopover in Indonesia as long as they are not coming out from the Immigration Check Point or border.
